Sustainability In Fashion

I've never been someone who has a lot of money to spend on the latest clothes or trends, when buying clothes I tend to look at the quality of the garment, I think a lot about how long the item will last and what it's made of because for me that is one of the most important factors in buying clothes.

The fashion Industry is the third most polluting industry in the world. In an industry where fast fashion is all the rage there comes a time where people have to look towards a more sustainable way of producing garments. A company that takes sustainability seriously is Levi Strauss. The brand has been modernised and transformed, they emphasise sustainability from how and where the garments are made to the longevity of there garments after the sale. As part of their 2013 spring collection the fashion icon created a new "waste less line", the biggest feature in the line was that each pair of jeans included around eight recycled bottles with denim fabric. Levis is now one of many companies who are changing how they deal with sustainability such as Marks and SpencerNike and Puma.

Creating My portfolio

I have started creating my portfolio from scanned sketchbook images, I've been using Photoshop to edit these images so that they blend together better and to also improve the quality in some areas. This is an experimental page, during this session I had been playing around with different imagery  and collage techniques based around the topic of youth, this session helped me to focus on what part of the theme youth I wanted to focus on, I ended up choosing to look into British youth culture, in particular punk. (I will be posting the images of my work relating to punk a little later.)

Once I decided I was happy with the arrangement of the images I placed the mood-board into InDesign so I can start to build up more pages to my portfolio.

Creative CV

I have been trying to create a CV that looks professional yet shows a little bit of individuality. I started off writing my CV in a normal word document and later decided that I wanted the presentation to look more professional and creative, I used Adobe InDesign as it allows you to create lots of different layout and you can play around with it. I used the same template i’d created for my cover letter so that the two items link.

Finding Jobs & Internships

I have previously looked at jobs, placements and work experience, as I would like to work in tailoring I thought it would be a good idea to see where I could get an internship. One of the places that popped up while I was looking for jobs was Gieves & Hawkes, I thought this would be the best kind of work experience/ work placement for me,  so I've edited my cover letter as if I was applying for a job with the company.
