Denim+

I have finished my final pages for my denim+ project, I have tried to incorporate my best mood board pages, sample pages, a few of my fifty designs, technical drawings my final line up and images of my final garment. I think theses are the best pages as they flow really well and they all show some of the different strengths I have and they also show my ability to do a variety of different things.

I have tried to keep this project looking quite minimal and modern as the project was about armour and futurism so I thought this would be very in keeping with the futuristic aspect of the project. Each of the double page spreads incorporate similar colours from the previous page to give the feel that the project really links together well and this also helps the pages to flow nicely. I've added small paragraphs to explain what i have done on each page and how it links to the project as a whole.

Laying Out My Pages

My digital application unit and my white shirt unit were much simpler to put into my portfolio as they didn't need alot of editing or rearranging. I've tried to keep the pages as simple as possible leaving alot of white spaces, I also tried to make the pages flow by incorporating little splashes of colour on each page so that the following page would link with the previous page.

I have incorporated images of my final white shirt in particular the collar and the cuff and have written a little paragraph of where my inspiration came from and how it links in with my research.

I have also started arranging the first two pages of my denim unit, the work in this unit is my strongest, because of this it will be the biggest project in my portfolio page and it will be minimum of 8 pages long.

Creative Realisation

I have continued to put my portfolio together,  I've been editing and arranging some of my work from my creative realisation unit. The work from this unit has been difficult to arrange and put into a portfolio as alot of it was quite faint and difficult to see, because of this I only used four pages of work as I feel it isn't my best work.

I have tried to make all my pages flow by using the tear drop tool in Photoshop to pick up some of the grey tones from the mood board and incorporate them into the other pages using a simple decretive strip.

Punk Designs

My portfolio page for my creative drawing unit based on punk and some of the previous images posted. I have added a light background which is similar to the image in the centre of the page, this  helps blend the page together.

Punk... Youth

As part of my creative drawing unit I explored the theme of British youth culture, in particular punk. As punk was an expression of youthful rebellion and anti-authoritarian mentality, I decided to look at the mentality of youth punk and how there attitudes towards music art and fashion influenced their look.

These are some of the images I used to influence my designs.

Professional Practice

I am continuing to create/develop my portfolio using work I've previously completed for my university projects. I must admit I have definitely struggled when arranging my pages as knowing how things should be organised and put together can be quite challenging especially as I tend to over think things too much.

During my creative drawing and digital application unit I created a lot of technical flats using Adobe Illustrator, I thought it would be a good idea to show some of my best technical drawings in my portfolio as it shows that I have a range of different skills and have a strong ability to use Illustrator. I have edited the technical drawings slightly as some of them were in colour however in order to make them all look good on a page I made sure they were all in black and white.

I am quite happy with the way this page has turned out, I feel that my technical drawings have been shown very clearly, I have also added an illustrated image that I created of Prince in the background as he was my main focus throughout this particular project and I hope this will tie this section of my portfolio together nicely.

Sustainability In Fashion

I've never been someone who has a lot of money to spend on the latest clothes or trends, when buying clothes I tend to look at the quality of the garment, I think a lot about how long the item will last and what it's made of because for me that is one of the most important factors in buying clothes.

The fashion Industry is the third most polluting industry in the world. In an industry where fast fashion is all the rage there comes a time where people have to look towards a more sustainable way of producing garments. A company that takes sustainability seriously is Levi Strauss. The brand has been modernised and transformed, they emphasise sustainability from how and where the garments are made to the longevity of there garments after the sale. As part of their 2013 spring collection the fashion icon created a new "waste less line", the biggest feature in the line was that each pair of jeans included around eight recycled bottles with denim fabric. Levis is now one of many companies who are changing how they deal with sustainability such as Marks and SpencerNike and Puma.

Creating My portfolio

I have started creating my portfolio from scanned sketchbook images, I've been using Photoshop to edit these images so that they blend together better and to also improve the quality in some areas. This is an experimental page, during this session I had been playing around with different imagery  and collage techniques based around the topic of youth, this session helped me to focus on what part of the theme youth I wanted to focus on, I ended up choosing to look into British youth culture, in particular punk. (I will be posting the images of my work relating to punk a little later.)

Once I decided I was happy with the arrangement of the images I placed the mood-board into InDesign so I can start to build up more pages to my portfolio.

Creative CV

I have been trying to create a CV that looks professional yet shows a little bit of individuality. I started off writing my CV in a normal word document and later decided that I wanted the presentation to look more professional and creative, I used Adobe InDesign as it allows you to create lots of different layout and you can play around with it. I used the same template i’d created for my cover letter so that the two items link.

Finding Jobs & Internships

I have previously looked at jobs, placements and work experience, as I would like to work in tailoring I thought it would be a good idea to see where I could get an internship. One of the places that popped up while I was looking for jobs was Gieves & Hawkes, I thought this would be the best kind of work experience/ work placement for me,  so I've edited my cover letter as if I was applying for a job with the company.
